We Got Hot and Heavy with Meta’s Muse—And Baffled by Apple’s HomeView
This week on “Uncanny Valley,” we dive into an unexpected Muse feature, shadowy spending from the largest pro-AI super PAC, and men’s tendency to lie about how much they know about AI.

TimeCap: A Scalable Open-Source Pipeline for Captioning Wearable Health Time-Series Data
To address this, we release TimeCap, an open deterministic captioning pipeline with three reusable extractor tiers and a cross-channel synthesis layer that operates directly on the signal with no language model in the loop, extensible to new schemas by writing channel definitions alone.

ixi-sLM: On-Device sLM for AI Call Agent Service
Running an AI call agent on-device makes it private, network-independent, and free of per-query cloud cost, but shipping one as a real-world service imposes constraints a cloud deployment never faces: 1GiB memory budget, in-call latency and thermal limits, static-integer NPU execution, Korean STT input far from sLM pretraining, and cloud-level quality expectations.

Receipt scanner that runs a fine-tuned 0.8B vision model on the phone (free) - detailed cost tracking
I wanted to track grocery spending per item without sending my receipts to anyone, so I built an Android app around a small vision model that reads a photo of a receipt into JSON: store, date, total, every line item. (iOS will take a couple more days to be checked by the Apple team.)
